You may or may not be familiar with the font Comic Sans. What you may not be familiar with are some facts about this oh-so-hated font that make it so useful for students with visual learning disabilities such as dyslexia.
Comic Sans was originally created to be used in the small speech bubbles in comic books, thus the name ‘Comic’ Sans. After its creation, a lot of businesses began using this font for serious reasons, which made the serious things look a lot less serious.
The reason this font is so useful for students with dyslexia is it’s heavy bottom and the differentiation between letters, lessening the chances of flipping.
Many smart phones give the option to change the font the phone uses, and one of the fonts is very similar to Comic Sans.
If Comic Sans is not to your liking, or simply doesn’t work for you, there are a number of other fonts that are “dyslexia approved” and are preloaded onto every computer. [Here] is a link to a list of other fonts that reduce flipping.
This is also useful from a game design and web-content creation standpoint.
